Odate city, Akita prefecture, is closed up to Towada-Hachimantai National Park and Shirakami-Sanchi, because they are designated as a World Heritage Site. It’s known as the hometown of "Hachiko", the Akita dog displayed at Shibuya station, Tokyo. The city has a unique event called the Amekko market. It is said that if you eat candy on this day, you'll avoid catching a cold.
